Over 20 years of experience repairing wind instruments.
Instruments are picked up & dropped off for repair at Traverse City Violin Co (3003 Garfield Road N, Traverse City). Instruments are picked up from TC Violin, examined at my home repair shop, and customers are contacted with assessment of needed repair and estimate of cost.

Flute services
Student flutes
Playing condition repairs typically include pad replacement, “SSR” (“Seat, Silence, & Regulate”: seating individual key pads over their toneholes to seal properly, replacing key bumper corks & felts to silence key clacks as needed, and regulating connections between keys), head cork replacement, and repadding (full disassembly, cleaning, polishing, replacement of pads and key corks/felts, and adjustment to proper playing condition. Cleaning & polishing can be added to playing condition repairs of student flutes in order to improve their cosmetic appearance.
Intermediate Flutes
Playing condition repairs include the above, as well as a Clean, Oil, and Adjust service (COA), which includes “SSR” plus: replace headcork; fully disassemble, clean, & polish body and keys as practical; additional charges apply for pad replacement and other excess labor required (dent work, tenon fitting, straightening & soldering posts & ribs, etc).
Professional and handmade flutes
Minor repairs are performed as appropriate, but the standard “annual” (give or take, depending on use) playing condition service is the COA.
Full mechanical overhauls can be performed with a variety of pad options - traditional felt (including factory felt pads for Sankyo and Muramatsu flutes), Schmidt gold, Muramatsu MA (“Lotus”), and Straubinger.
